Embers of the World Tree Card Reveals

Reveal season for the mini-set kicks off right here, with two Druid cards and a neutral. We will not waste any time. Let us look at them and discuss.

Imbue Druid enjoyers, get excited! This minion looks like an ideal fit for the strategy, allowing us to cheaply give our Plant Golems rush and let them have an immediate impact on the board. Imbue Druid does not currently have great comeback potential, relying on growing a lead in incremental fashion, but Chameleon can now give the deck a real swing turn.

Of course, Chameleon can work in any deck in the future that focuses on leveraging a modified hero power, but Imbue Druid guarantees its competitive place on day 1.

2/4 total stats with a rush keyword, for just 1 mana? Looks great.

Druid gets a new board buff in Standard, and it looks powerful for the cost. A permanent +2/+2 buff for 3 mana is a great fit for aggressive Druid decks that flood the board. Such a deck does not currently exist in the format but Overheat gives the class a real incentive to find a new one.

The discard drawback does not hurt an aggressive deck too much, though the Nature spell requirement means we need to support the deck with a package of spells that fits a faster deck. We wonder whether Overheat causes players to take another serious look at Grove Shaper, which is both a value engine for Nature spells and a board creator that Overheat can buff.

Wow. This minion is a huge addition for Imbue archetypes of all kinds. A 3 mana 2/3 that draws two cards sounds incredible for these strategies going forward. It is almost like having a new Ethereal Oracle for these decks. We know from Dreamweaver that this condition is easy to meet and is not the reason why the 4-drop does not see much play. It is about the impact.

Petal Picker’s impact is a major consistency boost for any Imbue strategy. In Druid, this should be vastly superior to the underwhelming Reforestation and will be active on curve often. In Mage, this is superior to Divination, as it puts stats in play and does not cost an additional resource. In Hunter, this is an easy inclusion, as the archetype currently runs weak draw effects. Shaman and Priest are starved for card draw, while Picker offers a great evolve target in Shaman. Paladin has plenty of card draw, but you can never have enough when your strategy is based on shuffling portals and finding them.

Can Imbue decks rise in prominence on May 13th, the launch date for Embers of the World Tree? We will publish a Comprehensive Preview for the mini-set before it is out, so check it out if you want to read our thoughts on every card from this set.

We will see you later,
